Sunday Faces

I did a post on this a while ago and have to say that it is still a topic that comes to mind every Sunday at church.
I love my church, its large and there are spots for everyone to fill in.I have my niche and I love it.But its the "in crowd" that I hate.
They are the ones who think that they are above all the common folks and attend the trendy "class".Not to improve themselves but to network.
Their kids get picked to sing solos or act the main roles in plays.
I hate the way they ignore newcomers to church. How much does it cost you to say hello to someone you dont know or recognise?
I have a hard time being social but I always try to say hello to anyone I see and there are those who will turn their heads if you dont belong to "the holy grail" and dare say hello to them!
Our adult Sunday school class is gaining in numbers and its because everyone is so friendly and talk to each other and I am grateful for them.
This verse comes to mind....
Blessed are the meek: for they shall posses the land

Do those "holy grail" types populate the Bible Study, too? I'll bet notttttt..... let me know!

I'm sorry about those people; we have other problems at our church but no snobbery. That is tough. (So's our problem)

I am sorry to hear of this in your church. Being a snob does not sound very Christian like does it? Not a good way to live. I am sure you agree.
You just go about being the nice open and smiling one. You are doing what you can. We can't change those hardened, uncaring folks.

This is one of the reasons I am put off at times by the church as we know it.

One time the church I belonged to at the time went as a group to a Gaither homecoming concert. We gave our money to one of the ladies in the church who bought the tickets. The day of the event I went there with my daughter, son, and nephew. My nephew was by the group first. the lady who bought the tickets pointed out to us where our seats were. they were a few rows away...away from the group.

There were times when the choir was taped for shut ins. I sang with the choir and usually stood in the back corner of the choir pews. I watched some of these tapes. When the choir was panned closeup, whomever was recording would stop and start panning the other way before they got to me.

I guess they were ashamed of me.

I agree. It's so very sad and unfitting for the body of Christ.

Sounds like YOU are on the right path! Also sounds VERY familiar to me as a certain chrch in my town came to mind.

Some people totally go to church for SOCIAL reasons.

Avoiding new people makes it seem like some scriptures are getting overlooked. It's kind of sad, but I see it my church too.

Frasypoo-Being a fellow, transplanted peach - I can surely relate to the pit-falls (sorry, pun intended) of some of the cliques, in some of the churches, that I have attended here. To me, the newcomers are the most important aspect of every organized religion. We can only "reap what we sow" - and if we are not willing to sow the seeds of acceptance and tolerance, we surely cannot expect to reap their rewards.
Blessings to you!
